I'm Obsessed with Severance and Need Your Recommendations for Similar Books and Movies
Never really been a science fiction or mystery person but maybe I should be?
I am obsessed with Severance. I haven’t been this into a show in a long time.
I have a fascination with The Morning Show and I find myself eager to watch it even though it’s very soapy but this is different.
This might be the best show I’ve ever seen. It’s so good that I’m not even enjoying White Lotus, which I usually love. White Lotus is just NOT SEVERANCE to me and Severance is all I want to think about.
I”m so obsessed that I’m deep in the world of fan theories. Reading them brings me no joy. On the contrary they make me feel weirdly nauseated and hyper fixated. And yet it’s a compulsion so I must.
Something occurred to me though: maybe I love science fiction? Is that what appeals to me about Severance? Or maybe I love mystery? Is that what keeps me hooked?
I’m not really a genre person in general. I went through a young adult phase when I was a young adult but beyond that, not so much. And yet the books from my childhood that stayed with me—that I still talk and think about—were science fiction (Singularity and Into the Dream by William Sleator), fantasy (The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews yes that Julie Andrews, writing as Julie Edwards; Dragon’s Blood by Jane Yolen) or mystery (The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin).
Some time ago I announced that I needed to spend less time on my phone and more time consuming great works of art that deal with the human experience. Works of art that give us ways to envision what it means to be alive. Ways to think about it. Etc.
I’m back to thinking I really need to do this instead of pissing my time away endlessly scrolling.
So I ask you: What are the great science fiction or fantasy or mystery books and movies I should watch, given that I am obsessed with Severance?

I’m back on the Instacart train. I tried to get off but there are just times (all of them) when I cannot get myself to a grocery store and it’s so much easier to just have it delivered. Use this code for $10 off your first Instacart order.
Also, are you using Rakuten? If not you are leaving money on the table when you shop online. Truly. Here’s a code.
I talked on my show recently about how I bought makeup and skincare from a few different excellent companies and when I went to return a few items the companies refunded my money but didn't ask me to return the items. This makes me love them so much. Note: I don’t know if this is their policy always but it’s nice to know it’s truly truly 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

Dark on Netflix. It still hurts my brain trying to sort it all out but it does all get sorted in the end.
