I've Never Written About It Before: Tattoos That Should Have Alarmed Me

For my last installment I wrote about recently having gone to the same dark place my brain has been going for years: googling atrocities (especially related to the Holocaust) and then feeling compelled to inundate myself with upsetting info while at the same time sinking deeper and deeper into a feeling of deep unsettlement.
Holy crap I did not realize unsettlement is a word! I was kind of joking when I used it.
I must see what it means:
1. : an act, process, or instance of unsettling. 2. : the quality or state of being unsettled.
Well shit. That’s what I mean. The second definition.
Anyway, I discussed the first time I experienced this particular flavor of self-induced unsettlement. It was after I went on two dates with a white pride guy.
I mentioned his tattoos and how originally I did not know what they meant so after I put it all together, I went on a lengthy fact-finding mission to memorize all the hate symbols so this would never happen to me again.
