No One Tells You The Truth
When I did television in New York I became aware of a certain type of person who works in both local and cable news: a skinny blond, conventionally attractive woman who is accomplished and good at her job but extremely insecure.
There was a woman like this in local news in New York where I appeared on morning programming. As soon as she stepped out of the studio she was a shell of herself. “Was I okay? Was that okay? Did I do okay?” she would ask everyone from the producers to the assistants to the makeup artists.
What happened to her, I wondered. Was she always like this? Did television do this to her? Was it the news director, keeping her off balance? (Some news directors do this.)
And then when I appeared on Fox News I noticed some of the blond women who circled Bill O’Reilly had a similar energy.
