Maybe Now Is Not the Time To Cut Them Off?

I get it, but hear me out

I keep vowing not to get political and then I find myself getting political.

Every time I do it I lose followers/subscribers.

I don’t know if it’s people who disagree with me or people who are burnt out on politics or people who only want to hear me talk about my experience on The Adam Carolla Show. (I am simultaneously working on a post about the first time I had dinner with Lynette which was a test so don’t leave me, people!)

Anyway, I will keep this short.

I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff on social media where people are cutting off friends and family who voted for Trump.

I don’t think we should be doing this.

I understand feeling betrayed. How could they vote for someone who will endanger my life and my rights? Or worse, those of my children?

That’s how it feels to many of us.

But I’ve come to realize that they do not see it that way, at all. They do not agree with our stakes.

They think we’re a bunch of hysterical ninnies, shrieking about nazis. They think we’ve lost it. To them, we have no credibility, which is a problem.

But how can they think that? He said as much. Project 2025… Day of Liberation… Jan. 6. etc.

I get this, I do.

But at this point all the new horrors we are afraid of happening have not happened. And I am open to the idea that maaaaybe they won’t. Mostly because I really hope they don’t. I hope it was all hot air. I hope he’s tired.

The point at which they start happening? That changes things.

But I don’t really understand what the point is now. It’s too late. And simultaneously too early.

Unless you know for sure the people you want to cut out of your life are atrocious monsters. Unless you know for sure they don’t care about you. Unless perhaps you have been looking to no longer have contact with them anyway. Perhaps this was the last straw.

If that’s the case, by all means carry on.

But if there’s some part of you that’s feeling sad about cutting them out of your life, I don’t think you have to.

Half the country wanted this. Right now I’ve tasked myself with trying to understand them. To understand why this happened. To understand how so many people are able to tune into a frequency I can’t pick up.

Okay now I’m done being political.

Also I’m afraid I’m going to get it from all sides on this one. Am I just being a people pleaser? Am I trying to keep the peace? Maybe. But keeping the peace is tactically worthwhile.
